Leni jokes about SC removing her from VP position

After the Supreme Court gave a 9-5 ruling in favor of the burial of late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Vice President Leni Robredo jokingly made a remark that the institution might remove her of her position too, to favor the electoral protest filed against her by the Marcoses.

Bongbong Marcos who ran against Robredo filed an electoral protest after discovering that he was 200,000 votes behind Robredo.

Speaking at the Ateneo de Manila University, Robredo made these jokes, first greeting Ateneo Vice President Maria Luz Vilches.

"First let me greet the Vice President... of Ateneo" she said, earning chuckles and claps from the audience.

"Eto siguradong hindi matatanggal ito ng Supreme Court." she said.

The remark made the crowd go wild.

That was the first time Robredo publicly addressed speculations that the Supreme Court was in favor of the Marcoses, fueling speculations that she might lose her position if the protest reaches the high tribunal.

She spoke of her disappointment at the court's ruling.

“On that same day, we received news that rocked the nation: the Supreme Court voted 9 to 5 in favor of giving the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos a hero’s burial. Disappointing, heartbreaking news,” she said.

But she said she also saw a spark of hope.

“On Facebook, I saw that hundreds of Ateneans made a stand for what is right. I congratulate you for the sureness of your moral courage and I thank you for the strength of your conviction,” Robredo said.

She said the issue on Marcos was as relevant as that of any other issue on economics and governance.

"We cannot talk seriously about the Philippines’ growth prospects without considering as well the depth and scope of our country’s history,” she said.

She also addressed the issue on gender rights, referring to Duterte's statement about her knees in an event in Tacloban.

“Everywhere, we bear witness to the many ways that women are undermined: catcalling, sexual abuse and harassment, even glass ceilings in the workplace. Often, we are reduced to our bodies. This is unacceptable,” she said.

“Tasteless remarks and inappropriate advances against women should have no place in our society,”  she added.

The Ateneo students gave Robredo a standing ovation.
