Duterte should answer for surprise Marcos burial, says Bam Aquino
Senator Bam Aquino on Friday said President Rodrigo Duterte should answer for the surprise burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
In an interview, Aquino said he was at a “loss for words” over the development.
“We are at a loss for words. Lahat ng nasabi na, lahat ng nangyari na, itinuloy pa rin at ginawang patago ang paglibing kay former President Marcos,” Aquino said.
“Mahirap paniwalaan pero nangyari po iyon. Ang isang tao na nagdala ng napakaraming kasamaan sa ating bayan, ngayon po nakalibing sa Libingan ng mga Bayani,” he added .
Asked if Duterte should be held accountable, the senator said: “Of course, because it’s his decision to do this.”
“Siya po ang nag-decide nito. Iyong mga panawagan natin dito ay para magbago ang kanyang isipan pero klaro naman po na itinuloy na rin po niya,” he said.
Senator Aquino is the nephew of the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., a key opposition figure during the Martial Law era. He is also the cousin of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
The senator said he believes Duterte knew of the Marcos family’s plan to bury the dictator Friday.
“Siguro ang ganitong kabigat na bagay, palagay ko naman siguro kailangan tanungin muna sa commander in chief nila kasi AFP at PNP ang nagsasagawa ng aktibidades,” Aquino said.
Aquino pointed out that it was Duterte who promised the Marcos burial during his campaign for the presidency.
“It’s so unbelievable…Instead of moving forward, embracing democracy, ipagtatwa ang corruption, itigil ang cronyism, iyon po, ililibing natin ang simbolo niyan sa Libingan ng mga Bayani kaya napakahirap pong paniwalaan,” he said. —KBK, GMA News
