Alvarez insists Robredo’s hand in impeachment complaint vs. Duterte
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Friday insisted that Vice President Leni Robredo was involved in the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an Unang Balita interview, Alvarez said the impeachment complaint was made only to speed up the process of installing Robredo to the presidency.
Alvarez was referring to the electoral protest filed by defeated vice-presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. with the Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
Marcos contested the results from 39,221 clustered precincts from 25 provinces and five cities whose votes his camp said, if either annulled or recounted, would be enough to overcome Robredo's 263,000-vote lead.
Alvarez first made the pronouncement in a QRT interview on Thursday.
"Anything is possible kasi nga mayroon isang babae d'yan na nagmamadali na gustong pumalit sa ating Pangulo, pupuwede po na merong destabilization,” Alvarez said, before eventually dropping Robredo's name.
However, both Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano and Robredo’s spokesperson Georgina Hernandez denied the vice president’s participation in the impeachment complaint.
Stupidity?
Alejano on Thursday filed the impeachment complaint before the Office of the Secretary General at the House of Representatives.
In his 16-page complaint, he cited Duterte for culpable violation of the Constitution, engaging in bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
Alvarez, following the filing on Thursday, brushed off the impeachment complaint, saying, "We are all entitled to our own stupidity."
In the Unang Balita interview, however, he clarified what he meant by stupidity.
— Erwin Colcol/MDM, GMA News
