Trillanes dares Duterte: Sue me for libel if bank account claim is untrue

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV challenged President Rodrigo Duterte to sue him for libel if his accusations on the President's bank accounts were not true, according to a report on QRT, Friday.

"Mr. President, if the media reports based on my allegations weren't true, then why didn't you just sue me for libel?" Trillanes said in a statement.

"And, by the way, my allegation wasn't P200 million but more than 2 billion pesos in accumulated credits in your bank accounts. Just sign a waiver para magkaalaman na. Sinungaling ka!" he added.

Trillanes' remarks came after Duterte hit two media firms for alleged unfair reporting.

This was not the first time that Duterte lashed out at the media companies as he also slammed them for their reporting about the alleged bank accounts exposed by Trillanes during the campaign period.

The senator, a vocal critic of Duterte, earlier said the President has more than P2 billion in his bank accounts.

According to Trillanes, the amount of P2 billion were accumulated from 2006 to 2015, when Duterte was still mayor of Davao City.

Trillanes also claimed Duterte's children, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Sebastian, as well as his common-in-law wife Honeylet Avencena, have millions in their bank accounts. — Anna Felicia Bajo/MDM, GMA News
