Manila lawmen hurt in drug sting get medals
MANILA, Philippines - Two police officers wounded in a drug bust in Sampaloc, Manila Monday night received medals from Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa yesterday afternoon.
Dela Rosa handed the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and Medalya ng Kagitingan to Police Officer 3 Michael Carabeo and Police Officer 1 Ronald Dipacina at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Hospital.
The wounded officers also received guns from Dela Rosa.
During the drug bust, alleged pusher Ricardo Garcia, 51, was shot dead after he fired his gun upon sensing he was dealing with a police officer.
The suspect’s son Jomar, brother Ronnie and friend Gregorio Asi were arrested after trying to fight with the police.
Garcia’s partner, Myla Cruz, 45, sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen and was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila.
Senior Inspector Ariel Ilagan, Manila Police District Station 4’s drug enforcement unit team leader, said the suspect was on their drug watchlist.
The lawmen retrieved six sachets of suspected shabu, a .38 caliber revolver and a .45 caliber pistol during the operation.
